Career guide · Working out of town

Working in a new city get ready

Transportation, accommodation, shift and return plans must be clear as well as the attractiveness of the offer.

Working out of town can offer a new environment and different work experience; But before making a decision, it is necessary to calculate how daily life will be established. BAX Career asks for out-of-town availability and preferred cities in the application form. Filling out these fields does not mean that you are automatically approved to work in any city.

Create the quote file

Have the full name of the business, city and county, location code, job description, start date, shift, weekly leave, wage and pay day written in one place. Confirming what was said during the phone call via text message or e-mail reduces misunderstanding. If any of the terms change later, re-evaluate before accepting the new terms.

Transportation and return plan

  • Ask who will pay for the first trip and how to purchase tickets.
  • Save the contact person to use at the end of work or in case of an emergency.
  • Check the end of the shift and public transportation times together.
  • Leave the city, business, accommodation and estimated working time near you.

Transportation support should not be abandoned by saying "there is"; It should be explained under what conditions, in what amount or by what method it will be provided.

Do not decide without seeing the accommodation

Accommodation type; It can be a hotel, apartment, hostel or staff house. Ask questions about room sharing status, common areas, entry-exit rules, security, address, deposit and cleaning responsibility. Understand whether accommodation is paid, whether the fee is deducted from the salary, and whether it continues on free days. If possible, ask for written information or a reliable video demonstration.

Things to have in the bag

Do not hand over originals of identification and important documents; learn secure copy procedure only if necessary. Prepare a charger, personal medications, basic clothing, an emergency contact list, and some independent transportation budget. Bank card password or e-Government password is not shared with any employer.

Look for three separate confirmations when deciding to go out of town: are the job conditions in writing, is the accommodation/transportation plan clear, does someone you trust know where you are?

Questions for the first day

Find out in advance who you will meet on the first day, the assignment area, shift handover, dress code, and who to contact in case of an emergency. If the environment or task is different than described, clarify the situation before starting work. Instead of staying alone in a place where you feel unsafe, inform the person you trust and the relevant communication channel.
